I built this little gem based on Sega Game Gear specs (except the non square pixel display and sound chip) It was a powerful little system.  I think given a large enough rom this game could actually have been built for the system in the 90's

  • CPU Zilog Z80 @ 3.5 MHz
  • 64 sprites max 8x8 or 8x16 <---this is what I modeled
  • 8 sprites per scanline
  • 12-bit color (4096 colors)
  • 16 colors for a global background palette
  • 16 colors for a global sprite palette
  • Each pixel of a sprite was a 4-bit value, so all 16 colors from the sprite palette could be used in a single 8x8 tile of a sprite or background tile

As for the sound the composer used famitracker with  VRC6 support (used by Japan's version of CV3)

Saw this in "Fresh Games". Wish there was a story description in the description. I wonder who the horned girl is.

Basically the reverse-engineering of Final Fantasy... the first one of course.

I hope its final version will be... fantastic.

I liked the gba or gbc feeling of this game. Feels like something i'd play when in the car. Although there wasnt much to do, the combat at least feels like a traditional rpg. Loved it overall. 

Impressive game. Looks like Final Fantasy.

Update:  Bug Fixes

Fixed

  • Off by 1  error for monsters array so snakes can appear in battle.
  • Monster misses showing 0 damage
  • Various tile layering bugs (house interiors & water)
  • Dual equip bug giving additive attack power and hit rate
  • Bug empty hands attacks using weapon animation
  • Wounded characters not showing wounded status in menu
  • Couldn't back out of menus in battle
  • Re-entering town sent you to the debug town.
  • Random warp to ocean after battles
  • Being placed one tile too low after battles;
  • Walk thru walls when holding two directions.
  • Crash when item menu opened with no items in battle.
  • Softlock when selling items (selling disabled)

Remaining 

  • Can't use items/techniques outside of battle
  • Using/Equipping items doesn't decrease their count
  • Using magic doesn't reduce/cost technique points (TP)
  • Shields decrease physical attack & hit % too much
  • Can't completely remove equipment (only replace)
  • Npc's in Inn are all soldiers
